Following his side’s 1-0 win over Garforth Town, Spartans assistant manager Paddy Atkinson was happy with the win but insisted that there was room for improvement and that it would come with hard work on the training ground. Atkinson, who returned to Croft Park this summer to assist Tommy Cassidy in the dugout said “We could have scored three or four in the first half alone but we have to try to establish how we are going to get that level of consistancy. We are doing it in spells where we are either very good or we are a bit average and it is getting there but we need to keep working at it on the training ground.”
Whilst the club has a good history of cup runs Atkinson feels it’s time to move on and concentrate on this new Spartans side. The former York City man said “It’s all in the past isn’t it and as with the season we had last year we have to move on from that. It hasn’t been up to the standards that everyone expects at Blyth Spartans so if we can keep working hard we can turn it around and get the results we want to see.”
Atkinson feels that it is one thing that will see things improve at Croft Park and that is good old fashioned hard work. He said “I always say to the lads hard work will beat talent if talent isn’t hardworking and that’s what we need to keep doing as it unit. We need to just get through to the next round and get three points or get that cup win. It’s result over performance and we have got the result today”
