Win was all that mattered for Jeffries

Spartans keeper Peter Jeffries admitted that his side make life uncomfortable for themselves during the win over Kings Lynn Town but felt that they were full value for all three points. Goals from front three Dan Maguire, Robbie Dale and Jarrett Rivers put Spartans into a three goal lead before the visitors struck twice in the space of five minutes to send the nerves around Croft Park. However Tom Wade’s side held and Jeffries admitted that was “all we wanted”.

“We made it very very hard for ourselves. We were coasting when the third goal went in and we just needed to do the right things to get the win. There was a silly foul on the edge of the box and the free kick was superb. That let them back in but in the end we stuck together and go the three points, that was all we wanted from today”

Spartans back four were given a tough test by the Linnets frontmen Greg Smith and George Thomson with former Grantham Town striker Smith causing problems with his strength. However Jeffries paid tribute to the Spartans back four and felt that they managed the threat well to take a vital win.

“They were direct but the back four did very well. All four of them coped well with the long ball into the lad up front. To be fair we have played a lot of teams recently who were that direct so it’s something we getting used to”

Whilst Spartans are in the process of a wonderful FA Cup run it has left them playing a serious case of catch up in the league as they hold as many as eight games in hand on some teams. Jeffries admitted that the upcoming Second Round tie at Hartlepool United was on everyone’s but assured Spartans supporters that the players will continue to “give their all” in fixtures before the trip to Victoria Park.

“It’s a good three points and hopefully we can kick on and get ourselves up the league table. We needed the win and whilst we are in the FA Cup we are going to fall further being in games played. People say the Hartlepool United game isn’t in our heads but I think it is there somewhere but as we did today we will continue to give our all because the league is very important to us”
