We could have won it – Buchs

Reflecting on today’s 2-2 draw against Buxton, Spartans captain Wayne Buchanan felt that his side deserved credit for getting back into the game but also that they deserved more than just a point. A first goal of the season from Shaun Utterson coupled with a penalty and first goal for the club by Craig Hubbard meant that Spartans made it just two defeats in eleven games at Croft Park but Buchanan wanted more and singled out one of the goalscorers for praise.

He said “I thought in the last twenty minutes we really went at them and in the end probably deserved to win the game. It must have been quite exciting eventually for our supporters but we really should have taken all three points. Craig Hubbard has come in today and he’s really given us a lift. He is full of energy in the middle of the park and he’s another leader on the pitch which always helps.”

Whilst many of Spartans goals this season have come from the likes of Ryan McGorrigan and Robbie Dale, there were two new names on the scoresheet today with Utterson and Hubbard scoring and Buchanan feels that it shows his side have a threat all over the park. He said “Shaun is always getting forward and puts himself in dangerous positions despite being a defender and his will get you goals. He could have had a couple today especially with the one that hit the bar. Craig has put himself forward for the penalty and that’s a good thing because it shows he is confident. Obviously he nearly got another when he just got in front of me anc hit the post from Neal(Hooks’) corner and he was unlucky there. Maybe he should have left it to me given the goals I have managed to score recently”
