Watson delighted with “deserved” point

Spartans defender Jordan Watson was honest in his assessment of the point gained by his side at Curzon Ashton. The former Northern Ireland youth international admitted that there were tired legs in the Spartans squad after Saturday’s late win at Mickleover Sports but felt they deserved the point that they take back to Northumberland with them.

“It was tough but it is a very good result. I think a lot of the lads were tired after a difficult cup tie at Mickleover on Saturday and then travelling to Curzon Ashton today it takes it out of you but we battled well and we deserved our point”

Fitness was a key factor in avoiding defeat according to the former Sunderland academy man and he felt that it is something that is improving for himself and the whole Spartans squad.

“We are getting fitter and it showed. The last fifteen minutes we really pushed them back into their own half a bit like we did with Mickleover on Saturday. We had chances to win it but we are happy with a point”

A small but noisy band of the Green Army made the trip from Northumberland, Sheffield and Cannock to back Watson and his team mates and the full back was quick to praise those supporters who made the trip on an awful autumn night in Lancashire.

“It’s amazing support and on a Monday night in this horrible weather it’s great to see. The players all appreciate it and we love having them with us”
