After finding out his side had been handed another home draw in the FA Trophy Spartans manager Tom Wade revealed he was “relishing” the tie against Evo-Stik First Divison North side Ramsbottom United. Wade watched his side destroy Skelmersdale United on Saturday and they have been rewarded with another Croft Park tie, something the Spartans boss feels is of highest importance no matter who the opposition are.
“All you want in any cup competition is a home tie and that’s what we have been given. They are a new side to us and we are relishing what is a good challenge for this young side of ours. We will pay them the upmost respect and do our home work”
Wade is in a good position to scout a United side who hammered Spartans Evo-Stik Premier Divison rivals Worksop Town 7-2 on Saturday to reach this stage. They have also beaten Darlington 1883 in the league this season and the Spartans manager will put his contacts to good use in preparation for the tie.
“We will have them looked at in person and I will be talking to people who I know I can trust to get the low down on them. Obviously they have played Darlington 1883 this season so I will be looking to talk to Martin Grey about them and I’ll have a chat with Worksop Town manager Mark Shaw to get an up to date view of them”
With Spartans going well in the league Wade emphasised just how important the FA Trophy can be to the club. Despite the increased level of games in the competition he feels it is a chance to use the competition to the club’s advantage as they look to continue the impressive start to the season.
“It’s the top Non-League cup competition around so obviously you want to do well in it. We have made a good start this season and the FA Trophy allows us to continue that and keep this run going. Football is all about momentum and the Trophy gives us the chance to build that, it’s massive for us this season”
