Utt-er relief for Shaun

Spartans full back Shaun Utterson earned himself a man of the match award but his overall emotion was one of relief as his side earned another crack at Blue Square North side Workington through Tom Berj’s injury time equaliser. The tenacious Utterson was given the sponsors award after putting in an impressive show but in defence and going forward. He commented “It’s total relief, we deserved at very least a draw after a good second half performance. We were on top and had our chances but as it gets to the last five minutes you think its going to slip away but when the equaliser went in it was relief all round and we get another go at them this Tuesday.”

Of all the comments made by Tommy Cassidy and his players this season, the most prominent has been that they need to stop playing in patches and put in a solid ninety minute show but today they continued that trend. Utterson revealed that the players were told in no uncertain terms that the second period had to be much improved. The full back said “We came out second half and were first to every ball which is a total contrast to the first half. We were brighter and more alert and overall just seemed to want it more”.

After being named man of the match, Utterson revealed that whilst the award is always a nice one to recieve, he was more concerned about the result and a well earned replay. “It’s nice but I am glad we got the equaliser. The award wouldn’t have meant anything without the result.”
