“It was more like the Blyth Spartans of earlier in the season,” said manager Tom Wade following his side’s 1-0 win at Stamford on Saturday.
“We looked a bit more solid than we have recently and kept the ball well which is what it’s all about. The balance of the team was right and we pretty much had the best of the first half and then went on to dominate the second and played some great stuff.
“Our midfield dictated the tempo of the match, knowing when to shift the ball and bringing their teammates into play. They were well organised, distributed the ball well and were on hand to break up opposition moves too and also they enabled the two full backs to get forward too.
“In the end we could have won by two or three goals.”
Wade revealed that midfielder Neal Hooks will be in contention for a return for the visit of Workington to Croft Park on Easter Monday.
“We have a squad for a reason plus the fact that Wadey [Matthew Wade] may have to miss out. Monday’s game will be mentally harder than Saturday’s with the two sides fighting for the chance of being promoted but at least it’ll be a game when the opposition come to attack us unlike some home games recently when the other sides were keen, from the off, to slow everything down and frustrate us.”
