Tom Wade, Blyth manager, thought his side deserved to get something out of the FA Cup tie on Saturday despite his team losing 2-1 at Spennymoor Town.
“Two mistakes cost us dearly,” he said. “We dominated the first half and had a couple of cracking chances to score but the goal we conceded was a calamity. Indecisiveness and a slip caught us out against the run of play. Spennymoor weren’t showing much at all although their back five looked really strong.
“We dominated after the break too without really creating too much but we had loads of the ball. But we fluffed it again to give them another goal.
“The match was played in a real derby atmosphere and the ref had a good game. But we needed a bit more quality.
“The way we played was very rewarding from a coach’s point of view and we had Spennymoor hanging on towards the end. The players were absolutely devastated at the final whistle but I was very proud of them. They never gave up playing the right way and I believe we came out of the game with a lot of credit.
“Credit must also go the Spennymoor. I say well done and congratulations to them. I hope they go on to have fantastic FA Cup run like we did last season.”
