Tom talks – after the Matlock game

Blyth manager Tom Wade was disappointed but not downhearted after seeing his side draw 0-0 with Matlock on Tuesday.

“It was frustrating not to be able to get the three points,” he said. ‘But they have signed several players on loan from Sheffield United and are a totally different side from the one they were a few weeks ago. They’re fighting for their lives and came to Croft Park with the express desire not to lose.

“It’s hard to play against some teams who have 11 men behind the ball. We need a bit of magic to win games like that. And if Maguire, Dale and Rivers can’t provide that then you have to give Matlock credit for good defending. Those lads are probably the best strikers in the league so I don’t see how many teams could have done much better.”

Wade revealed that defender Jordan Watson will miss the rest of the season having had his double hernia operation on Wednesday.

Wade commented: “Jordan has been playing in pain for many weeks and he couldn’t delay the operation. The op went well and we all wish him a speedy recovery. In terms of the Witton game on Saturday we hope to have Stephen Turnbull back although Damen Mullen is away.

“I’m looking forward to it and seeing our tremendous away support again. They are always great!”
