Tom talks – after the Marine game

Spartans’ boss Tom Wade reflected on his side’s 2-0 win at Marine on Saturday.

“The conditions, the rain and wind, were atrocious for both sides,” he said. “You have to applaud both sets of players and the officials who did well to get the game finished.

“Nipa [Daniel Maguire] reacted really well to take advantage of a Marine slip up and we went on to control long spells in the game, especially in the second half. Michael Richardson scored a fantastic goal to put us two up while we were playing very well against the wind.”

Wade revealed the reason he had to substitute Damen Mullen after only 20 minutes.

“Damo twisted his ankle which went up like a pudding. It was pretty painful. It’s a shame because he’s been playing well. We’ll have to assess the extent of the injury this week but at this stage it seems like he might be out for a couple of weeks.”

Danny Parker started the game in the centre of defence alongside Ryan Hutchinson in place of Dillon Morse.

“It was my decision,” said Wade. “I looked at the conditions and the nature of the opposition and felt it was a horses for courses scenario. It was tough on Dillon but Danny did exceptionally well.”
