Tom talks – after the Buxton game

Following his side’s comprehensive demolition of Buxton at the weekend Blyth manager Tom Wade commented: “It ended up 4-0 to us but it could have been more. It was probably our best performance of the season so far against a good side. We were without Stephen Turnbull, Neal Hooks and Ryan Hutchinson, all three of whom are quality players, but we were still able to boss the game. The great thing about our squad now is that we needed rush anyone back from injury too early.

“We are now an experienced Evo-Stik Premier League side. We can’t use the excuse that we are a young side any more. All the players are ‘on the same page’ and some of our play at Buxton was breathtaking.”

Forward Daniel Maguire scored a fine hat trick in the game.

Wade commented: “I was pleased for Nipa [Maguire]. By his own admission he been slightly off the boil but it was only a matter of time before he began to fire on all cylinders. His play on Saturday was superb.”

Wade also thanked the large contingent of travelling fans whose vocal support was terrific.

“Buxton is usually an intimidating place to play but it was a sea of green and white on Saturday. The players and management all really appreciate the effort the fans go to to follow us.”
