Following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Buxton Spartans’ manager Tom Wade ruminated on the twin reasons behind the result.
“From our point of view we were flat, didn’t look at all sharp,” he said. “On top of that some of our key players ‘didn’t turn up’. But Buxton did a job on us. They were really strong with an excellent front three and a superb back four. In fact they had no weaknesses. Their keeper made a couple of good saves and kicked well too. They are a seasoned side which is something we aren’t – yet.
“However we should remember that that we were unbeaten in 2014 till Saturday and we have come a long way over the course of the season.”
Wade added: “I would have liked to bring in some new blood to kick us on, as most of the top teams are currently doing as we’ve operated with, realistically, about a 16 man squad who have gone about their business with enormous energy but now the well is looking a bit dry.
“I was disappointed for the supporters on Saturday as they’d turned up in good numbers and were excellent. I just hope they stick with us.”
Looking ahead to next weekend’s home game against AFC Fylde the Blyth boss said: “Fylde are a top side so obviously it will be tough for us but we are now entering the business end of the season and every game is going to be tough. Most teams will have something to play for. But the Fylde game is a good one for us because very few people will be expecting us to get anything for it. Be sure though that we will give it a right go. We’re still positive.”
