Spartans sign keeper Jeffries

Blyth Spartans can announce the signing today of goalkeeper Peter Jeffries from Spennymoor Town.

Peter signs on the dotted line

The 27 year old highly rated keeper is delighted with his move to Croft Park.

“I’m really happy and can’t wait to play for Blyth,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to play at the highest level that I can, as I believe all players should, so moving up to the Evo-Stik Premier League is very exciting.

“Blyth is the best non league semi-professional club in the region. It’s a great club with facilities which are spot on plus it wants to move forward. Promotion is the aim for this season and I want to be part of that.”
Peter joined Bishop Auckland in 2008 and moved to Spennymoor at the beginning of last season. The Billingham-based scaffolder already knows some of the players at his new club.

“Yes, there are some former Bishops lads there like Aarran Wearmouth, Dan Parker, Dan Hawkins, Ryan Cummings and assistant manager Colin Myers plus goalkeeping coach John Bottensien and physio Bev Dougherty.”

Colin Myers said: “I believe we have signed the best goalie in the north east. Peter is a top class player. I had him at Bishops and working with John [Bottensien] he came on leaps and bounds. He was worth between 15 and 20 points a season to us there. I think he can get even better at Blyth. He’s a big lad, an excellent shot-stopper, he’s commanding and a good organiser. What’s more he’s a good lad and will add some more humour to our dressing room.”
