Blyth Spartans can announce that they have moved today to sign former centre half Brian Smith from Whitley Bay as cover for tomorrow’s clash with Gateshead.
The 34-year-old, who given his huge presence is useful at both ends of the pitch, was part of the Unibond Premier Division winning squad of 2005-2006.
Whilst it is expected that usual centre half pairing Wayne Buchanan and Chris Swailes will play despite injury, with Alan White cup-tied, manager Mick Tait has moved to provide some cover from the bench, should it be needed.
