Spartans have donated a shirt signed by the whole squad to help two North East lads who are undertaking a massive challenge to support cancer charities. The shirt was presented to Kevin Moore of NUFC Cancer Cycle on Tuesday night at training by Spartans captain Wayne Buchanan and manager Tom Wade. Moore and close friend Thomas Concannon will be cycling to every Newcastle United Premier League away fixture during the 2013/14 season and their fundraising begins with a raffle and auction at an upcoming charity dinner.

New Spartans manager Wade said “I couldn’t believe it when I heard about the challenge that these lads are taking on but they certainly seem motivated and committed to doing it. Everyone at Spartans are right behind them and hope they raise as much money as possible for their cause. Hopefully we can get them down to Croft Park to take in a Spartans game once their challenge is finished”

Moore himself said “It’s obviously a massive challenge me and Thomas are taking on but we have both lost family members to cancer so the motivation is there. We are both busy training hard to get ready and we appreciate any support we can get. It was great to be invited down to Spartans training and the lads were superb with me. The donation of the shirt will go towards helping us raise funds before we even start the challenge and it’s great to know we have one of the most famous non league sides in the country behind us. We both wish Spartans the best of luck for the rest of the season and beyond.”
