Sloppy Spartans frustrate Sonny

Spartans striker Sonny Andrews was a frustrated figure after the defeat at the hands of Grantham Town. After getting his side back on even terms within two minutes of going behind the Spennymoor Town loanee felt his side could go on to win the game. However some poor defending and the dismissal of keeper Conor Grant allowed the home side to get back on top and Andrews insisted that spell ultimately cost Spartans the chance of taking something home from Lincolnshire.

“The first half we threw the game away in all honesty. We got off to a bad start conceding early, got one back and we were comfortable for fifteen minutes. Then we got sloppy and conceded some silly goals, that cost us in the end, it was frustrating”

The striker revealed some harsh words were spoken in the Spartans changing room at the interval. Reeling from the dismissal of Grant and facing a three goal deficit he admitted there was a somewhat sombre atmosphere. However he hoped that the Spartans faithful could see exactly the reaction they wanted as they ramped up the pressure on the home side.

“Everyone’s heads were down. We could have went two ways, we could have went out and collapsed or we could go out and have a go at them. I think anyone who was at the game will know what we did and we just give it a right good go”

Four goals in five games has seen Andrews make an impressive start to his loan spell at Croft Park. The striker has been pleased with his early impact at the club and hoped that would carry on as Spartans make the short trip to Darlington 1883 on Wednesday night for their opening Doodson Sports Cup tie of the season.

“I’m really enjoying it here and it’s been great so far. I’ve been brought in to score goals and to help the team win a few games. That hasn’t happened today but hopefully we can get back on track on Wednesday”
