Second half cost us says captain Buchanan

Spartans skipper Wayne Buchanan reflected on his side’s 1-2 defeat at home to title favourites Hednesford Town and believed that Spartans’ failure to come out after the break and replicate their first half showing cost them. He said “We were better in the first half and it was great coming in with a lead, but we came out in the second and didn’t get going and that was disappointing. After Tuesday and the win there, you would have thought things would have been better and it just wasn’t good enough.”

However Buchanan did believe that there were positives for Spartans and was impressed with some of his side’s attacking play. “There were some positives for us and some of our attacking play was good today, we created chances and could have been further ahead. Then you could say the same about them, they created chances but we made poor mistakes that have let them into it. You can look at it and say when you are one up at half time you need to keep it solid but we made some silly errors and need to cut that out”.

With Spartans travelling to manager Tommy Cassidy’s former club Whitby Town on Monday they have a chance to bounce back quickly from the disappointing loss today, Buchanan said “Yes, we definitely have to get it out of our system at Whitby on Monday and push on again. You can’t dwell on the loss too much so we have to pick it up again and get things going.”
