Spartans defender Arjun Purewal reflected on a goal and a hard earned point at Nantwich Town and admitted that getting on the score was a “rare” experience for him. The former Whitby Town centre back was recalled for the injured Nathan Buddle and put in a man of the match performance that was topped off with an equalising goal midway through the second half. That was his second goal against the Dabbers this season after grabbing one in the draw at Croft Park and Purewal was pleased to put in a strong performance.
“It was nice to play and obviously I haven’t played a lot recently so it can be tough to find your fitness levels. I am glad to have put a performance in and obviously it’s great to grab a goal. It’s very rare that I get them but it’s always nice to get one”
There was no doubt that the home side were on top in the first half as Spartans were put under heavy pressure. There were grateful that they went into the interval only a goal behind but Purewal revealed that strong words spoken in the dressing room has a positive effect in the second half.
“It took us a while to get started and I think we were really still on the bus a bit. We got a kick up the backside at half time and we came out looking a better side for it. We deserved a point I think”
Ashton United’s late win at Stafford Rangers means Spartans play off hopes are all but over but Purewal insisted his side still have plenty to play for and set his side a challenge for the end of the season. With away days at AFC Fylde, Worksop Town and Stamford and a home game with Whitby Town, Purewal wants his side to come through that four match run unbeaten and to set their sights on bringing some silverware to Croft Park in the form of Northumberland Senior Cup.
“We have a few games left and we have to look to go unbeaten until the end of the season. Then there’s the Cup Final which we have to carry our form into and put a good performance in there. We have to look to win it”
