Parker puts pen to paper

Spartans have further bolstered their defensive options with the signing of Danny Parker.

The centre-back is well-known to assistant manager Colin Myers – having played under him at Bishop Auckland last season.

And the 22-year-old has revealed that he is “Overwhelmed” to be signing for Blyth.

Parker said: “It’s a well-established club. When I got the text off Tom and Colin, I couldn’t believe it.

“But I’m absolutely delighted to be here. I can’t wait to get involved in this standard of football.

“I’ve been playing Northern League and it’s a good league, but this is even better and I can’t wait to get started.”

As well as making the step up of two divisions, the former Motherwell defender is also glad to be linking back up with Myers at Croft Park.

Parker said: “Tom was in touch in the first place, but Colin was in touch as soon as he got the job as assistant.

“I’m happy to be back with him because he knows exactly what he’s doing, he’s got the experience and I’m looking forward to seeing his impact on the club.”

And despite missing all of Blyth’s pre-season games so far with a shoulder injury, he is still hopeful of being ready for when the new season begins.

Referring to his shoulder, ‘Parks’ said: “It’s fine. I only did it the first time a month and a half ago.

“It’s just a slight tear in the AC joint, but I’ve had a good month’s rest and I’ve been exercising. So, I should be ready for the start of the season.”
