Blyth Spartans manager Tom Wade’s planning for the 2015/16 season were given a major boost as right back Alex Nicholson agreed to sign a new contract with the club.

Nicholson became a firm favourite with the Green Army after an impressive second half of the season with his attacking style of play being an increasingly prominent feature of Spartans play.

The former Newcastle United academy product joined Spartans last summer after his release from Preston North End and is set to be a key part of the squad for the new season.

After agreeing to stay Nicholson set his sights on continuing the “good feeling” that was around Croft Park at the end of last season.

“I was desperate to stay at the club because when things really got going last season, and the way we were playing, there was a really good feeling around the place.

I am very happy to be staying here and I hope we can build on what we achieved last season”
