New Assistant Manager Colin Myers will be hoping his time at Croft Park isn’t all pie in the sky, unlike one of his previous visits to the ground.
The former Bishop Auckland boss officially joined the club last night – after his appointment had been announced late on Sunday evening.
And, while speaking to BSAFCTV about his new role, he revealed all about the unsavoury – or should that be savoury – incident which occurred when he visited Blyth as a Northern League player in the early Nineties.
Myers said: “I can remember being stood on the post for a corner and getting hit in the face with a red-hot mince pie, which was an experience. But the pie was nice, so I wasn’t too bothered.”
The 44-year-old also spoke of his delight at joining a club “With the stature of Blyth.”
Myers said: “It’s a massive club. It’s one of the biggest clubs in North East Non-League football.
“Tom’s an attraction for me as well. He’s done everything in the Non-League game (so) to work with Tom again is an added bonus.”
And the new management duo have already started planning for the new campaign, despite Myers having only been in the job some 48 hours.
The former English Colleges coach said: “We’ve had a great couple of conversations and we’re going to do everything together.
“Tom’s the manager and I’m his number two, but it’s going to be a good working relationship.
“We both think the same. That’s obvious with the conversations that we’ve had. We’re singing off the same page (and) we like to do things the same way.”
With regards to what he’ll bring to Blyth’s training, Myers added: “I tend to do a lot of ball work (and) I think shape work is very important for a team. If you can get the shape right, then you’ve got a chance.
“So together, me and Tom are going to put what we can into this team and really work hard to get it back on the right road.
“I think it’s going to be an excellent partnership.”
