Spartans midfielder Damen Mullen cut a disappointed figure after his side were denied by a last minute equaliser that sees them face an FA Trophy replay at Halesowen Town on Tuesday night. Luke Haseley’s chip over Peter Jeffries ensured that Tom Wade’s side have to make the long midweek trip if they wish to progress in the Trophy, on a day when Mullen felt things just didn’t happen for his side.

“Obviously we are disappointed. The first was a battle and anyone could see that, it took us until ten minutes from the end of the half to get to grips with that. We thought when we had got the goal we would kick on. It just didn’t happen for us”

Mullen admitted that it was a tough game for his side but also reminded his team mates that they hadn’t actually lost the game. He pointed to the fact that Spartans have a win at the Grove – Halesowen Town’s home ground – under their belts from earlier in the season as to why they can have confidence heading into the replay.

“To be fair they were back to front and we couldn’t really get into a pattern. It was a tough game. We haven’t been beaten today and we shouldn’t forget that, we have drawn so we just need to regroup and go down there in the confidence that we can get a result”
