Midfielder Wade bemoans silly goals conceded

Blyth Spartans midfielder Matthew Wade wants his side to cut out the “silly goals we are giving away” as they look to restart their play off push.

Thursday night’s draw at Ramsbottom United – their fourth draw in a row – was secured with a dramatic spell that saw late goals from Ryan Hutchinson and Dan Maguire wipe out a two goal deficit.

However Wade is frustrated that his side are continuing to concede easy goals.

“We are happy with the point in the circumstances but obviously we went down to Ramsbottom to win the game. That hasn’t happened but it should have. We need to cut out the silly goals we are giving away because we continue to make our own lives difficult and it must improve”

Substitute Ash Davis was the man credited with sparking a sensational Spartans comeback. The former Whitby Town striker was introduced into the action with Spartans two goals down and caused havoc for the Rams backline with his strength and power.

Wade, who described the striker as “a beast”, was delighted to see Davis make such an impact.

“Ash is a beast isn’t he? I am happy I don’t have to play against him because he is so strong and causes lots of problems. He has done really well to come on and make an impact like that because it’s not easy as a substitute to come on and do that but I am pleased he did”

The former Washington FC midfielder paid tribute to the Rams, who Spartans beat comfortably at Croft Park three weeks ago, and admitted he could see an improvement.

“Obviously we have played them twice in a short space of time and I don’t think they had the best time at our place. They arrived late and we played really well on the night but tonight you could see they looked more organised and were really hard working. They made it tough for us”

Spartans now move on to their fourth game in eight days as Stourbridge make the trip to Croft Park on Saturday afternoon. The Glassboys are another side who Wade and his team mates have faced recently and he insisted that tiredness is no excuse and that spirit in the camp is high.

“We are enjoying it at the moment and we know what we have to do. Every game is tough in this league and we have to get a win on Saturday. We can’t go on about tiredness and use that as an excuse, we just have to give our all for the club and for our supporters because, quite rightly, that’s what they expect”
