It wasn’t a bad night for Spartans striker Dan Maguire. Three points sealed, two goals scored and a man of the match award into the bargain as he played a key role in the pulsating win over Ilkeston at Croft Park. Maguire scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season and post match was keen to stress just how his side deserved the win, a one he described as “huge”.

“It was a good win, obviously we get the points we deserved and I’ve just seen we are back up to fourth in the league. Given where people thought we would be pre-season even at this early stage that’s some achievement. It was great to bounce back from the loss on Saturday and get ourselves back on track, it was a huge win for us”

Many feel that the Robins are in contention for a play off spot and were very dangerous opponents in the end-to-end fixture but Maguire felt the win showed just how far Spartans have progressed. Although he did point out that nobody inside the dressing room is getting carried away and are fully focused on improving as the season advances.

“The win shows we are up there with the likes of Ilkeston. We have beaten some good sides this season and should have taken at least a point at Skelmersdale on Saturday. Nobody is getting carried away though and we will just keep trying to improve”
