Spartans left back Joe Kendrick was thrown into an emergency centre back role following the injury to Jordon Mellish and was proud of his side’s improved second half show that earned a replay against Kendrick’s former club Workington. The former Mansfield Town man said “I think we deserved it and a draw was a fair result. The first half we were very very poor but we know that and second half we came out a lot stronger and did a lot better and a draw was earned. We just have to take this on to Tuesday and take it from there”.

Kendrick revealed that words were said at half time in the Spartans changing room but the players knew already as they ventured down the tunnel that it wasn’t good enough. “We knew at half time we weren’t good enough. It’s been like that all season where we have played in patches and haven’t been consistant enough but it’s credit to the lads for coming back. The lads here are hundred per centers and will give there all for the shirt. They will give their best”

The Irishman will make a return to Workington’s Borough Park on Tuesday night and is looking forward to the game. “I’m looking forward to it, I had some good times there and it was brief but it’ll be a great game. They’re a much better side than when I was there and were decent today. We have to take what we did today in the second half into the game and just see what happens”
