Blyth Spartans goalkeeper Peter Jeffries reflected on his competitive debut at Croft Park and revealed his pride at the strong performance of his new team mates against a physical Grantham Town side. The visitors were a strong outfit but the former Spennymoor Town stopper was pleased to see Spartans match their opponents throughout the game.
“We stood up to the challenge. They had five or six lads who were over six feet tall so it was always going to be tough but they didn’t cause us too many problems. We were strong and we stood up and were counted”
Jeffries admitted that his side needed the win against the Gingerbreads with an away double header at Ashton United and Matlock Town on the agenda this week. However he was “disappointed” to have conceded on a day when many in attendance would agree that the debutant more than deserved a clean sheet.
“We needed to get a win and we needed that because we have two very tough away games coming up this week. I was disappointed to concede especially with it coming so late in the game and that made it harder than it should have been”
A prolonged transfer from Spennymoor Town was a sense of frustration for Jeffries, however the man himself revealed just how easy the settling in process had been at Croft Park and has set his sights on promotion this season.
“It’s been an easy process to settle in here. Obviously people will know that I know a lot of the lads already but the ones I didn’t know have been excellent too. We have had good preparation and we are all target promotion”
