Craig Hubbard celebrated his commanding display against Whitley Bay this afternoon by re-signing for Spartans, following the final whistle.
The midfielder originally signed for Blyth in December 2012 and went on to score five goals – all from the penalty spot – in 17 appearances last season.
And the 27-year-old was in no doubt about staying at the club for another year.
Hubbard said: “I was always going to re-sign. I never looked anywhere else.
“I love it at Blyth. Especially after I had a couple of years where I was going from club to club and could never really get settled anywhere.
“I also love playing in front of a good fan base. They’re really passionate.
“Tom’s settled in as manager now as well and I have a lot of respect for him.
“I’m just glad to be enjoying my football again.”
‘Hubbs’ revealed how he is also looking forward to being involved in a full season at Croft Park this time around and has urged his team mates to turn Croft Park into a “Fortress.”
He said: “I’d like to say I’m very settled in the team now and I’m looking forward to playing my part this season.
“I know the budget’s been cut and things but – if we can get off to a good start – there’s a good group of lads here.
“There was a lot of chop and change last year, but Tom wants to keep a good structured team together.
“We need to get off to a good start though. We also need to make Croft Park a fortress by not being beaten at home.
“If we can do that, then there’s nothing to stop us from pushing for the playoffs but, as I say, we’ve got to make this place a fortress and get our points here.”
Manager Tom Wade was quick to praise the returning central midfielder and is more than happy to welcome him back through the gates at Croft Park.
Wade said: “It’s brilliant to have Craig back for this season and I thought he was superb today.
“He’s a great signing for Blyth. He’s going to have a massive effect on the younger players in the squad as well.
“I’ll be looking for him and Neal Hooks to help young Matthew Wade and Ryan Cummings along and, if they can, we should have a strong midfield for this season between the four of them.”
