Club statement | Gordon Young

It is with sadness that we have to advise fans of the Club that, after fighting a long and hard battle against cancer, Gordon Young passed away on Wednesday 7th August.

Gordon, along with his wife Dot and grandson Matthew, supported the Spartans for decades and up until last season could be seen in his regular seat next to the press box in the main stand. Gordon held many jobs at the Club including being a member of the Executive Committee for several years.

Gordon could turn his hand to any job and would regularly be seen at Croft Park doing any maintenance work that was required.

Gordon was involved with numerous other community activities in Blyth over many years, most notably his time at the Lifeguard and Swimming club where he taught 100s of children to swim.

He supported the Club in numerous ways behind the scene and he will be missed by all who knew him.

The Club will be holding a minutes silence in memory of Gordon at the home game against York City next Tuesday.

The Club passes on its deepest sympathy to his wife Dot, son Matthew and all other family members friends.

When funeral arrangements are confirmed we will advise supporters.
