When Blyth Spartans walk out on to the Victoria Park pitch for tomorrow night’s FA Cup Second Round tie against Hartlepool United they will be led out by two familiar faces. Twin brothers Cory and Cain Davison have been chosen as mascots for the big match and will be alongside the Spartans players as they go through their final preparations on the pitch.
The brothers are familiar faces to the Green Army and are regular attendees at Croft Park. Both are popular amongst the Spartans players and coaching staff and the brothers’ Dad Steven Davison explained just what it meant to the pair to be walking out alongside their heroes for such a big game.
“As most people are aware Cory (pictured above with Spartans captain Robbie Dale prior to the First Round tie against Altrincham) has fought brain cancer and places like Croft Park have played a massive part in his moral in recovery, Cain has never left Cory’s side, always joined at the hip, it’s their favourite part of the week going to Croft Park and cheering on The Mighty Spartans and gaining confidence and moral from the togetherness that this football club has an abundance of”
If Spartans supporters believe in omens then Cory led out then Conference side Luton Town when they completed a historic giantkilling against Norwich City during last season’s FA Cup. The brothers both revealed their delight at being chosen saying “This Friday is the proudest moment of our lives leading Spartans out into what could be one day a massive part in the clubs history”
