Debutant Stuart Bramley was a happy man after making his Blyth Spartans bow in the impressive win at Kings Lynn Town. The defender replaced the injured Ryan Hutchinson at the heart of the back four midway through the first half and settled quickly to put in a solid display alongside Danny Parker.
Bramley admitted that it was “disappointing” to see Hutchinson come off but stated his determination to make an impact, starting with the win over the Linnets.
“It’s always disappointing to see a team mate come off with an injury but I am grateful for the chance to get on. I have been itching to get on the pitch and I knew that I had to take that opportunity when I got it. I just did what was needed and thankfully we got the win”
With the sides going in level at the break it was imperative that Spartans didn’t concede in the second half and that was exactly what happened. The clean sheet during the half was something Bramley felt was needed and he paid tribute to his side’s attacking players for their role in securing all three points.
“The second half we came out strong and kept a clean sheet during the half, which to be fair we needed. We always looked dangerous going forward and to get three goals away from home is excellent. I like to think I contributed to the win so I am happy with that”
The defender joined Spartans after a short spell at EBAC Northern League high flyers and now FA Vase finalists North Shields. That followed a two week trial at Macclesfield Town and the defender revealed his delight at getting some pitch time, although did admit that being around the Spartans squad recently had given him confidence
“The lads have taken me in and been great with me. I feel confident here and I am enjoying it. The first two games I haven’t got on the pitch but watching the lads play and being amongst them helped give me confidence and I knew I would be ok when I got on the pitch.
I signed for North Shields about a month ago after being on trial at Macclesfield Town before that. I played one game for them but that was the last time I played football since coming back from America so it felt good to get on the pitch”
