They say that things always look better in the morning. Blyth Spartans manager Tommy Cassidy concurs.
Speaking on Sunday following the previous day’s 3-3 draw at home with Marine he said: “Straight after the match I was disappointed. When you are 3-2 up with minutes remaining only to concede an equaliser feels like a kick in the teeth at the time. But after sleeping on it I’ve got over it. It’s more important to take the positives from it.
“The two centre halves (Wayne Buchanan and Carl Jones) didn’t give much away and the whole defence were alright despite conceding three goals. The forwards worked hard while not having much in the way of supply. Craig Farrell is a good signing for us. He’s been around a bit and it shows while Phil Airey is also a great finisher but he’s only young and can get better. Overall we were a wee bit more solid than of late but, and I’ve said it before; we need to have a more physical presence in midfield. The lads there at the moment at times do well but they lack experience.”
Cassidy continued: “I agree that for the two penalties the referee got it right. But I was disappointed that for the one given against us that we allowed the player to run 10 yards with no-one attacking him. Robbie Dale won ours and that is one of the things Robbie is so good at, getting in to those positions tormenting defenders.”
Commenting on Tuesday’s trip to take on Stocksbridge Park Steels the Blyth boss said: “We will be looking for three points and I’m pleased we are going there rather than to a more fancied side. However we will have to manage without Phil Airey who is unavailable.”
The Spartans’ fans will be hoping that on Wednesday morning things are looking great.
