The Barclays Premier League is committing financial support to the Football Conference, with Blyth Spartans being one of the clubs to benefit. The Premier League has announced a solidarity package with the Conference worth £6m over the next three years. Conference North Blyth Spartans have received £8,000 this season and are able to bid for up to an extra £12,000 for community development activities. Blyth Spartans took ages to get out of first gear against Vauxhall Motors on Saturday. Mick Tait, manager of the Blue Square Bet North club, commented after the 2-2 draw, “We played without much pace in the first half and so at half time I said to the lads that we needed to step it up. In this mornings draw for the 2nd Qualifying round of the FA Cup Blyth were drawn away to Vauxhall Motors. The game will take place on 25th Sptember.
Today’s game against Worcester City will see Spartans manager Mick Tait take charge of the squad for the 100th time, over his two spells with the club. His spell at the club from October 1999 saw him clock up 42 games, as he steered a Spartans side destined for relegation to a comfortable mid-table finish.
