Buddle lauds Spartans forward play

Prolific finishing was the order of the day at Croft Park as Spartans put Skelmersdale United and defender Nathan Buddle was quick the pay credit to his side’s attacking players. Ash Davis and Dan Maguire got on the scoresheet whilst Arron Wearmouth was a constant menace during the first half before succumbing to an ankle injury. Far from being able to relax though the visitors defence had to contend with the youngster’s replacement Robbie Dale who played a part in every Spartans goal and Buddle revealed it was as much a pleasure for him to watch as it was for the Green Army.

“I don’t think I’ve ever played a half of football like that. It was strange that it was so one-sided and obviously they’ve just gone for it but it was easy to deal with. For the back four we just sat there and watched our forward players cause havoc, it was a joy to watch and I am sure it was for the supporters”

There have been many observers who feel that this Spartans side is improving but maybe lacks a little bit of belief as they settle into life at Croft Park. However Buddle believes that as they progress both belief and confidence is growing and that will only see positives as the season carries on.

“It just shows how good we are when you have Maguire, Wearmouth and Davis starting then you have Robbie Dale to come off the bench. It shows how strong we are now. Now we have to believe we can do it, we are young lads but the belief and the confidence is there. We know now we can give anyone a game and we will show that as the season goes on”

Whilst much of the attention will quite rightly go to the goals scored Buddle took great satisfaction at keeping a clean sheet. A rock solid display from the Spartans back four snuffed out a Skem defence who had put four past them just seven days earlier and Buddle marvelled at an “unbelievable save” from keeper Michal Misiewicz that denied last week’s match winner Ken Strickland a consolation goal for the visitors.

“It’s a massive positive taking a clean sheet and we need to get more. Michal has made an unbelievable save late on. From where I was it just flew over my head and I thought it was in but he has produced a world class save that shows how good he is”
