Robbie Dale has been many things at Blyth Spartans. Match winner and goalscorer amongst others but today in the defeat against Grantham Town another was added to the list as the winger took over in goal after the dismissal of Conor Grant. Remarkably the former Whitley Bay man kept a clean sheet in his forty five minutes between the sticks but was keen to pass on the credit to his outfield colleagues, although admitted they left themselves too much to do after a poor first half.
“I didn’t have much to do to be fair, that’s not down to me, that’s down to the outfield lads and how hard they have worked. We gave ourselves too much to do after the first half but we grafted really hard in the second”
Despite the negatives of a red card and a third away defeat of the season Dale felt there were positives to be taken from the defeat in Lincolnshire. The winger compared the reaction at half time today with the one he was party to as Spartans were battered at Worksop Town last season as a sign there have been improvements made at the club.
“We let ourselves down first half but we came out after half time and with ten men we have absolutely battered them. We have had six or seven great chances in the second half. Today was like the Worksop Town game from last season and we could have got battered like we did there. We wouldn’t have come back like that and it shows how we are improving”
