TEAM NEWS
With Barwell in FA Cup action, Spartans found themselves a rare free weekend and, with a fixture against Newcastle United Under 21s yet to be fixed, this weekend’s fixture was arranged. Blyth are the current holders of the Northumberland Senior Cup, after a 2-0 win at St James’ Park over Morpeth Town at the end of last season; goals coming from Michael Richardson, the ex Magpie, and striker Dan Maguire.

With the Newcastle first team on the road to AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, reserves manager Peter Beardsley will bring his young squad to Blyth to battle for a place in the semi finals. Usual reserve goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has travelled with the first team, after the unfortunate injuries Newcastle have encountered. Some players from the pre-season fixture between the clubs have been loaned out by the visitors to Football League squads.
