Spartans Sort Backroom Team

Management duo Steve Cuggy and Gavin Fell have put the finishing touches on their backroom team for the new season, with the retention of Susan Dale (physiotherapist) and Tony Kennedy (Kit Manager) and the appointment of Carl King (pictured below) as the new goalkeeping coach.

Carl King

King, 28, is a highly regarded goalkeeping coach, who has been working with Whitley Bay for the last few seasons and is looking to progress his career at Croft Park.

Upon his appointment King commented “When Gav got in touch, to see if I’d be interested in joining the Spartans, I had to give it some thought as I was really happy at Whitley Bay, but the opportunity was just too good to turn down, especially as I am keen to coach at the highest possible level.

“I’m really looking forward to the pre-season, meeting the lads and getting started with the ‘keepers”

Fell was also a pleased man, to get King involved “He’s a really good lad and a top class coach. He did wonders with the lads at Whitley Bay, including our new keeper Tom Kindley and I hope he can continue the good work at Croft Park.”

“It’s useful to get a keeper coach on-board as it means that they get specific training that they need, Carl will take the lads away and put them through their paces away from the outfield players, with them joining up for the set piece workouts and the short sided games at the end of the session.”

Blyth will begin their pre-season training this Thursday (23 June) in a bid to the hit the ground running when the new season begins.

Welcome to the club Carl!
