Spartans fell behind after only 30 seconds! James Holden wide on the right wing found Lee Furlong on the edge of the Spartans penalty area. He turned and scored past Mark Bell in the Blyth goal.

The home side rallied and should have equalised after 15 minutes. Gary Brown releasing Anthony Shandran inside the area his first time effort was only parried by keeper James Coates straight to Marc Walton who blasted over with an empty net at his mercy.

Robert Dale held up the ball well in midfield before finding Stuart Banks wide on the right wing, Bank’s cut inside defender Lee Dames before finding Walton in the area but he pulled his effort just wide of the goal.

Dale again was the provider when Simon Todd broke through but his shot was easily gathered by Coates in the Motors goal.

The second half saw very few chances created by either side. However, the best fell to the home side. Todd passing the ball to the right winger Banks and his centre was just too strong for Shaun Reay to convert inside the penalty area.

Then captain for the day Richard Pell rattled the cross bar with a half volley from Todd’s corner.

Vauxhall had a player sent off deep into added time at the end of the match; Anthony Wright saw a second yellow to have an early bath. Also Spartans assistant manager Graham Fenton was sent to the stands by referee Clayton in added time as well.
