BLYTH SPARTANS 2-1 FARSLEY CELTIC
JJ O’Donnell’s late winner saw Blyth move up to 19th against relegation rivals Farsley.
Connor Thomson opened the scoring for the Spartans in the 13th minute, as Angelo Cappello’s shot was deflected into his path for him to volley home.
Blyth’s other big chance in the first-half fell into the path of Angelo Cappello, this time his effort from outside the box would be turned behind for a corner.
As the Spartans committed forward for the corner, Farsley took their chance to attack. Luke Parkin managed to find Jamie Spencer, who powered it past Mitchell at his near post just before the stroke of half-time.
Blyth would sustain heavy pressure on a Celtic’s side who never looked comfortable forming an attack, but corner after corner caused little test for the visitors.
That was until the 87th minute, when Deverdics’ corner was met by a glancing header by O’Donnell in the six yard box to earn the three points for Blyth.
Farsley created nothing in the second half until Mulhearn’s late volley almost broke Spartan’s hearts, but it veered just wide of Alex Mitchell’s left post.
Chris Atkinson was sent off after the full-time whistle after a commotion with the referee.
