The long wait is almost over.

Blyth Spartans are back in action for the first time since December 2020 at Marske United in their opening game of pre-season on Saturday.

Following a frantic summer of signings – including the return of fans’ favourites – Michael Nelson’s men take to the field as they step up their preparations for the 2021/22 National League North season.

The Opposition

Marske United currently play in the Northern Premier League Division One North West.

Their 2020/21 season was cut short at just five league games. They were unbeaten in those games with three wins and two draws.

Marske’s goal threat comes in the form of Matty Tymon. The striker scored seven goals last season and was the top scorer in the league.

What We’re Saying

Speaking after the league fixtures were announced, Nelson said: “We feel we have done well with our recruitment and the pre-season friendlies, so hopefully the supporters will get a chance to see the lads ahead of the first day.

“I haven’t had a home game with supporters, and everyone tells me what it’s like when you get over 1,000 at Croft Park.”

“That’s what we have all waited to see and hear at the club during the last 16 months and it will be fantastic to see the supporters back behind the lads.”

Last Time We Met

It was an evening to forget for Spartans in last season’s FA Cup.

The two sides met in the Third Round Qualifying on October 13, 2020 at Mount Pleasant, with Nelson’s side losing 1-0 courtesy of Adam Boyes’ second-half strike.
