Senior Cup Quarter Final vs Newcastle Blue Star

Although a request was made by Blue Star to have Wednesday’s Quarter Final game postponed because of fixture congestion Blyth Spartans can confirm that the NFA have today ruled that the game must go ahead as planned. The Spartans have their own fixture congestion as a result of FA Cup success and bad weather and will be playing at least two matches per week until the end of the season.

Port of Blyth POTM – Feb 2009

CHRIS McCABE – FEBRUARY 2009 The month of February saw the Spartans play only three matches, the first was a performance against Burscough, which manager Harry Dunn described as ’embarrassing’ and ‘disgraceful’. The two remaining games saw the Spartans roll up their sleeves and at least try and complete in the games. This was helped in no small part by the return of midfield talisman Chris McCabe who put in…

Post Alfreton Town Reaction

Suggestions that Harry Dunn’s Blyth Spartans team had given up hard work for Lent were set to one side in Saturday’s game at Alfreton Town. The Spartans recent points-fast, and Dunn’s own public criticisms, seemed to galvanize his penitent team into producing a performance of considerable diligence. A draw against the League’s form team was both very welcome in terms of Blyth’s precarious position in the table and in the…

Dunn Blasts Blyth!

It was never likely to be a game characterised by stylish play or full of individual brilliance – and it certainly wasn’t. Blyth lost two nil against Burscough at the weekend with the Spartans lying third off bottom of the Blue Square North and their visitors one place below them. A scrappy affair was expected and that indeed came to fruition. Actually ’scrappy’ makes it sound better than it was….

SpartansFans POTM – Jan 2009

ADRIAN WEBSTER – JANUARY 2009 One of Harry’s best bits of business since the turn of the new year has been the re-signing of Kiwi “Schemer” Adie Webster from his stint in Finnish Football. His second spell at the club saw him turn the Fleetwood game where his clever, incisive play set Blyth on their way to a comfortable win. Well done (and welcome back) Adie!

Port of Blyth POTM – Jan 2009

RICHARD PELL – JANUARY 2008 This is Richard’s second monthly award and is richly deserved for his stand out performances in what was a historic month for the Spartans. He kept the strikers of Premiership Blackburn Rovers at bay and was a key figure in the Spartans mini-revival that followed. Well done Richard!
