Blyth Spartans are delighted to confirm that Josh Gillies has signed a new deal to stay at the club next season.
The winger arrived at Spartans last summer for a second spell at the club, only for his season to be cruely cut-short just 25 minutes into the opening match against Alfreton Town after suffering a serious knee injury.
However after a long year of rehabilitation under club physio Gary Neesham, Gillies is determined to put last season’s troubles behind him. “After a difficult season personally I can’t wait to get back next week and back on the pitch as soon as possible.
The former South Shields man is also looking forward to once again working under Terry Mitchell, “I’ve known Terry for about 20 years, and know the style of football he likes to play. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and hopefully we can have a successful season.”
The Spartans boss was delighted to see Gillies back in the squad, “I know Josh really well, I’ve coached him since he was 12, and he’s a fantastic lad. To come back the way he has, it shows he’s got real enthusiasm and drive still to play and a really strong mentality.
He’s a great footballer and someone who’ll create and score for the team. He’ll be back in for the whole of pre-season, and hopefully he’ll be ready and right on it for the start of the season.”
