Blyth Spartans 2-2 Spennymoor Town

Blyth Spartans extended their unbeaten run to nine games, but failed to win for the first time in eight attempts in a 2-2 draw with Spennymoor Town.

Blyth took the lead in the 22nd minute when Maguire got past the Spennymoor keeper and tapped it home.

Spennymoor equalised in the 57th minute as Anderson smashed the ball into the top left corner of the net.

In the 66th minute, Blyth managed to take the lead again as Rivers sent in a corner that found the head of Reid who was in loads of space in the box and sent it in the net.

Spennymoor equalised again in the 74th minute, Andrew Johnson got on the end of a great through ball from …. To give the away side a point to go home with.

Blyth started the game strong when Maguire got the first chance of the game in the 9th minute but his shot went wide.

In the 18th minute, Maguire dribbled his way past the Spennymoor’s defence and sent a low cross across the face of goal but Reid couldn’t sort his feet out and the ball went out of play.

Blyth found the net in the 22nd minute, Maguire got on the end of a long ball up the pitch, he headed past a charging Gould and then tapped the ball into the back of the net to give Blyth the lead.

Maguire got a chance to double Blyth’s lead when he cut inside from the left wing and unleashed a strike at goal that went wide of the near post.

Spennymoor had a great chance to equalise before half time when Anderson had a free kick that was heading for the top corner of the near post but Jameson managed to get across and make an impressive save then calmly collect the rebound.

Spennymoor started off well in the second half as Taylor had a strike at goal but it went straight at Jameson.

Blyth got a chance in the 53rd minute when Rivers flicked a pass on for Reid to get on the end of but his shot went into the side netting.

In the 57th minute, Spennymoor equalised as Anderson sent a strike soaring in the top left corner of the net.

Blyth took the lead again in the 66th minute when Rivers took a corner that found the head of Reid who was arces of space and sent his header into the goal.

Spennymoor then equalised again in the 74th minute thanks to a goal from the substitue Johnson who managed to get on the end of a piercing through ball from … and then curled his shot past Jameson.

Holmes had a chance in the 80th minute to give the Blyth the lead again when he turned and had a strike at goal but his strike was easily saved by Gould.

Spartans will be hoping to continue their good form when they face York City at Croft Park on Saturday 29th December.
