Hyde United 1 Blyth Spartans 0

Blyth travelled to Tameside tonight for a crucial Blue Square North clash with Hyde United and sadly for the Spartans (and their hopes of remaining in the league) they lost 1-0 to a 78 minute goal from David Owens.

Blyth’s cause was not helped by a first half sending off for Anthony Shandran, for an elbow. This will see Shandran miss at least three games*, meaning that he will miss the last two Spartans games of the season (Southport and Burscough) as well as the opening fixture of next season.

(* I am unaware of Shandran’s disciplinary record at Bedlington Terriers prior to arriving at Blyth Spartans, so the ban could be extended should he has received any previous red cards this season).

More reaction and reports will follow
