Blyth manager Tom Wade thought his side deserved to win at Matlock Town on Saturday.
“We thoroughly warranted the three points,” he said. “It was a lively pitch which made good football difficult. Matlock also tried to prevent us playing our usual game. But it was always going to be something of a battle; just like our Trophy game down there earlier in the season.”
Wade commented on the two sensational goals which gave his side the 2-0 victory.
“Sean Reid’s strike for the first one was brilliant. He scores like that regularly in training! Sean’s starting to come into his own now and is settling down nicely. It was never going to be particularly easy stepping up from the Northern League but he’s now proving himself to be a valuable asset to the club.
“Damen Mullen’s goal was superb too. He had a great all-round game including protecting the back four and the goal was with his ‘wrong’ foot. Like Sean, Damo {Mullen] is finding some good form.”
Another positive sign for the Blyth boss was the performance from Daniel Maguire.
“Nipa [Maguire] looked much sharper than recently. Getting him back to his best will be a massive plus for us.”
However, on the downside, Wade expects to be without both Aaron Wearmouth and Nathan Buddle for Tuesday’s visit of Rushall Olympic.
“They both picked up knee injuries on Saturday and are struggling. We can’t afford to lose players of their quality but we’ll just have to re-group. We’ll have to use the setback to bring in new lads and keep things as fresh as possible.
“We’re still fighting for the Championship in what is the final week of the season. Not many people would have expected that back in the summer.”
