Back on the road only a couple of Days after Saturday’s trip to Mickleover the Spartans took on Curzon Ashton on a dreary Monday night.
Despite with only Sunday spent not sitting on a coach between two matches Blyth acquitted themselves very well against a side lying third from top of the table.
“It was a great performance by everyone concerned,” said Spartans’ manager Tom Wade. “It wasn’t a bad game either, there were chances at both ends and either side could have won it although I thought we had more of the opportunities and the better ones. It was also good to see us still pushing on strongly in the final 15 minutes.”
Blyth went behind towards the end of the first half.
Wade commented: “We were a bit sloppy and got caught out by a ‘route one’ move. Mind, from their point of view it must have been a good goal. From ours it was anything but.”
The visitors equalised after 82 minutes through striker Jonathyn Quinn who is on loan from Newcastle United.
“It looked a bit of a fluke to be honest,” said Wade. “It was a cross come shot which found the far top corner of the net. But Jonathyn deserved it. He had three good chances and worked hard after he came on. Across the side we just need to relax a bit more in front of goal.”
