With Mark Gillespie’s loan spell from Carlisle United ending after tomorrow’s match with Altrincham, Blyth Spartans’ manager Mick Tait has moved quickly to secure the signing of former Ilkeston Town goalkeeper Dan Lowson.
The 22-year-old highly rated, Whitley Bay based stopper started his career at Gretna, before moving back to his native North East with Newcastle Blue Star, where he was component part of the side that achieved promotion to the Unibond Premier Division.
Since the demise of Blue Star, he has enjoyed a very successful spell, personally, with Ilkeston Town, which saw him pick up numerous individual awards at the end of last season. This season he has been on short term deals with both Darlington and Luton Town.
Dan is already familiar with several of the squad at Croft Park, being a former teammate of Nicky Deverdics, Neal Hooks, Michael Tait and Paul Brayson. He was also played in both games for Ilkeston Town at Croft Park last season and was a second half substitute for Blyth in their friendly against Darlington at the start of last season which saw him keep a clean sheet in the time he was on the pitch.
Tait was keen to sign ‘keeper then, but with Mark Bell already contracted to the club for that season was unable to successfully conclude a deal.
Having not played in the competition previously this season, Dan also has the advantage of not being cup-tied for the FA Trophy and is therefore available for selection tomorrow.
