Blyth Spartans can announce the signing of former Newcastle United striker Guy Bates from Drogheda United.
Bates, 24, is a tall, powerful striker who has played in Australia (Newcastle Jets), Belgium (K.V. Oostende and R.A.A. Louviéroise) and the Republic of Ireland (Drogheda United), he also has English football league experience with Darlington, since being released by Newcastle in 2005.
He is best remembered by Drogheda United fans for scoring the winner in the match against Cork City which secured the County Lough club the League of Ireland Premier Division title in 2007 (see below).
