Blyth Spartans have been forced to cancel tonight’s friendly game against Newcastle Benfield, due to the amount of rain that has fallen on Croft Park in a short space of time this morning.
The Northern League side had been scheduled to travel to Blyth for a 7:30pm, but an area of standing water on the pitch has caused a postponement for what was supposed to be the start of the club’s pre-season preparations for the upcoming Vanarama National League campaign. With no improvement forecast for the rest of the day, Spartans have been forced to call the game off.
Therefore, Alun Armstrong will have to wait a few more days to put his side through their paces for the first time this summer – as Saturday’s visit to West Auckland Town will now be the curtain raiser for Blyth’s summer schedule.
