Spartans given bye in NSC

The draw for the first round of this season’s Northumberland Senior Cup has been made and Spartans have been given a bye to the Quarter Final stage. Also given byes were Ashington, Bedlington Terriers, Newcastle United Reserves and Whitley Bay.

The three first round ties that will take place on the week beginning Monday 8th October are:

8/10/12 Team Northumbria v Morpeth Town
9/10/12 Alnwick Town v North Shields
10/10/12 West Allotment Celtic v Newcastle Benfield

Newcastle United Reserves are current holders of the trophy after beating Team Northumbria 4-2 on penalties after a 4-4 draw at St James Park last season. Spartans were put out of the competition by Newcastle Benfield last season at the quarter final stage, losing 1-2 at Croft Park. The club were last victorious in the competition in 1993/94 as they beat Newcastle Blue Star 1-0 in the final thanks to a goal from Dave Hallam.
