Ryan happy to be a Spartan

After scoring his maiden strike in a Spartans shirt recent signing Ryan McGorrigan revealed he was settling into the club quickly and stated he hopes for more goals to come. The striker was signed from Gateshead two weeks ago and made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Rushall Olympic last Saturday but played his part in a first Spartans win since mid September in the 4-2 win over Frickley Athletic yesterday. He said “It’s been good, the lads have helped me settled in really well and the gaffer has been absolute top class for me. I hope I can repay both the players and the gaffer with more goals and that’s what I’ll be aiming to do.”

McGorrigan was the quickest to react as Robbie Dale’s penalty was parried away by Athletic keeper Tom Woodhead and his reactions were rewarded with a goal. That proved to be the turning point in the game and two late Phil Airey goals sealed the win for Spartans and McGorrigan praised his fellow front man Airey saying “I know what Phil is all about and he has absolute lightening pace and is a great finisher. He links up well and I hope we can get a few more goals together for the club”.

McGorrigan was left the rue the one that got away after a first half effort crashed off the visitors post when he was played in on goal by Neal Hooks. A calm first touch and strong right foot effort came within a whisker of getting his first goal for the club and the former Gateshead man thinks he should have done better. “It’s great to be off the mark but I really should have had another in the first half. I should have went across the keeper really rather than going near post, really should have done better. It’s funny because with my goal Shaun(Vipond) said to follow up straight away so that was some good advice and I was happy to see it go in”.
